BEFORE VARNISHING, USE FOR CLEANING:
HEMPEL's PRE-CLEAN 67062
Always ensure that all surfaces are clean, oil-free, and dry. Clean the surface and remove any oil and grease with HEMPEL's PRE-CLEAN, Kunnon Rasvapoistoaine (a good degreaser), or HEMPEL Degreaser, then sand the surface with dry sandpaper.
BEFORE VARNISHING, USE AS A PRIMER:
For new wood:
Treat the surface with either thinned (can be thinned 50% with turpentine) or unthinned varnish and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
Intermediate sanding with 220-grit dry sandpaper and carefully remove sanding dust with a tack cloth.
Then treat the surface with either thinned (can be thinned 25% with turpentine) or unthinned varnish and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
Intermediate sanding with 220-grit dry sandpaper and carefully remove sanding dust with a tack cloth.
VARNISHING:
Surface varnishing: Thin the varnish with 15% thinner or use unthinned and treat the surface. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours and perform intermediate sanding with 320-grit dry sandpaper. Carefully remove dust.
Thin the varnish with 5% thinner if necessary or use unthinned and treat the surfaces 4–8 times. Always apply the last coat with unthinned varnish. Remember to allow each varnish layer to dry for at least 24 hours before the next application. Perform intermediate sanding with 400-grit wet sandpaper and carefully remove dust with a tack cloth.
The surface must be completely clean and dry at the time of painting, and its temperature must be above the dew point to avoid condensation. The moisture content of the wood must not exceed 17%. Do not treat in direct sunlight. In enclosed spaces, ensure adequate ventilation during painting and drying.
NEXT COAT OF VARNISH:
By itself or with Le Tonkinois Vernis Marine 1 varnish.
