BEFORE VARNISHING, USE FOR CLEANING:
Always ensure all surfaces are clean, oil-free, and dry. Clean the surface and remove any oil and grease with a good degreaser or HEMPEL Degreaser and then sand the surface with dry sandpaper.
BEFORE VARNISHING, USE AS A PRIMER:
For new wood:
Thin Teak varnish by 25% with Epifanes Brushthinner if applying with a brush, or Epifanes Spraythinner if applying with a spray gun, to allow the varnish to penetrate deep into the wood, and let it dry for at least 24 hours.
Sand lightly with 220-grit dry sandpaper and carefully remove sanding dust with a tack cloth.
Thin Teak varnish by 0-5% with thinner and apply 4–5 more coats. Allow at least 24 hours drying time before applying a new coat. If necessary, sand lightly with 220-grit dry sandpaper and carefully remove sanding dust with a tack cloth. Sanding between coats is not necessarily required if the next coat is applied within 72 hours.
At the time of varnishing, the surface must be completely clean and dry, and its temperature must be above the dew point to avoid condensation. The moisture content of the wood must not exceed 16%. Do not apply in direct sunlight. In enclosed spaces, ensure adequate ventilation during painting and drying.
