Tips for painting metal
- The purpose of painting is to completely insulate the metal surface from air and water.
- Before painting, all oxidation, salts, and impurities must be removed from the metal surface; after this, rinse with fresh water.
- Sandblast or abrade (sandpaper 60-120) metal surfaces until bright.
- Paint the bare metal surface with 20% thinned Hempel Light Primer immediately after surface preparation to prevent it from becoming dirty or oxidizing before the actual painting, and to achieve the best adhesion to the surface.
- Check the temperature of the surfaces before painting, as the temperature of metal surfaces may differ significantly from the ambient air temperature.
