Directions for Use
Stir thoroughly before use to ensure no sediment remains at the bottom of the container. The surface to be treated must be dry, clean, smooth, and free of dust, oil, grease, and wax. For best results, previously painted or varnished surfaces should be stripped with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Remover. Alternatively, surfaces can first be cleaned with mineral spirits, steel wool, and a rag.
Clean bare wood can be tinted with Rustins Wood Dye. This can also be added to the oil, but the shade will be lighter than if treated separately.
Apply Danish Oil evenly with a clean rag or brush and wipe off excess oil after a few minutes.
For new wood, two or three coats are recommended at 4-8 hour intervals, depending on temperature and humidity conditions.
An extremely fine finish is achieved when the final application is done with 00 or 000 steel wool or an abrasive pad, while polishing the wood surface. This removes any remaining raised grain and makes the surface silky smooth.
Wood used outdoors is recommended to be treated annually. Horizontal, stressed surfaces require more frequent treatment.
Before re-oiling, surfaces should be washed with water and detergent and wiped dry. When such a treatment is applied to a surface previously treated with oil or varnish, it may result in a slightly glossy finish. This can be dulled by sanding in the direction of the grain with 00 or 000 steel wool. Finally, wipe the surface with a rag. Tools must be cleaned immediately with mineral spirits. Hardened brushes can be cleaned with Brush Restorer.
Storage
In its original, well-sealed container, the product will keep for years. Flammable products should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Keep away from ignition sources.
