Why choose Maston TeakOil?

Maston TeakOil is a good choice when you want to restore the natural shade of wood and protect the surface from everyday wear and tear and weather conditions. It penetrates the wood, helps prevent drying out, and reduces the risk of the wood cracking and warping.

The product is easy to apply with a lint-free cloth or brush. Normally, one coat is sufficient, but new, worn, or heavily absorbent wood surfaces may require multiple coats.

Instructions for Use and Work Order

Clean the wood surface thoroughly before oiling. The surface must be dry, clean, and free from dirt, grease, old peeling treatment agents, and dust. Protect areas you do not wish to treat.

Ensure the temperature of the wood to be treated is approximately +15 °C and the wood's moisture content is 8–12 %. Wood that is too moist will not absorb the oil properly, and in conditions that are too cold, absorption and drying may slow down.

Shake Maston TeakOil well before use. Apply the oil directly to an untreated or previously oiled, cleaned wood surface. Use a lint-free cloth or brush and apply a thin, even layer in the direction of the wood grain.

Allow the oil to absorb for about 15 minutes. Then wipe off all unabsorbed oil with a clean, lint-free cloth. Do not leave a wet or sticky oil layer on the surface, as excess oil may dry unevenly.

Normally, one coat is sufficient. New, dry, worn, or heavily absorbent wood surfaces may require multiple coats. Allow the previous treatment to absorb and dry before applying additional coats. Allow the surface to dry completely before use.

Important: oily rags and tools can spontaneously ignite. Immerse used cloths and tools in water immediately after use and dispose of them safely.

Pre-treatment

The wood surface must be:

  • clean
  • dry
  • grease-free
  • dust-free
  • solid
  • free from old peeling treatment

Worn or grayed wood surfaces should be cleaned and, if necessary, lightly sanded before oiling. Remove sanding dust thoroughly. If the wood has old varnish, paint, or film-forming surface treatment, the oil will not be able to absorb properly. Such layers must be removed before oil treatment.

Painting system

Wood surface oil treatment:

  1. Clean the wood surface
  2. Allow to dry completely
  3. Lightly sand if necessary
  4. Remove dust
  5. Apply Maston TeakOil thinly
  6. Allow to absorb for about 15 minutes
  7. Wipe off excess oil
  8. Allow to dry before use
  9. Repeat treatment if necessary for worn or heavily absorbent surfaces

For boating use: suitable for treating wood parts above the waterline and indoors. Not suitable for the bottom of a boat, below the waterline, surfaces continuously submerged in water, or as a substitute for varnish in applications requiring a hard film-forming protection.

Painting conditions

Use the product in dry and dust-free conditions. The surface temperature should be approximately +15 °C and the wood's moisture content 8–12 %. Avoid treating in rain, direct strong sunlight, too cold, or very humid conditions.

Ensure good ventilation indoors. Use protective gloves and safety glasses, and protect surrounding surfaces from oil splashes.

Recoating times

Step Time / Instruction
Absorption time approx. 15 min
Removal of excess oil 15 min after absorption
Commissioning Once the surface is completely dry
Additional coat If necessary, once the previous treatment has absorbed and the surface has been wiped dry
Maintenance treatment When the wood surface appears dry, faded, or loses its protective oil layer
